My Monkey

my monkey
(16 May 2004) © 2004 by Kristi Martel

You hang on me
like wet leather molding to my shape and thickening me
making larger and wider my already Polish chest and Irish hips.
You hang on me
like a child or a monkey
waiting for me to be ready to play.
You hang on me
like sandbags and noose
weighing on me to move on while making it impossible
for me to let go.
You, hanging
me, weighing more
and more
til I let go the weight,
the unbearable haunting weight of your story, your tragedy, your heart
balanced
on my heart's knowing
you.
