Hallo Beautiful People!

It's been a long, long time! Thank you for all your emails and prayers, checking in on me and letting me know you miss my performances! I miss them and you too! And your support has really helped me through this time of healing retreat. I am not 100% yet, but I am getting much stronger. I have been learning my new keyboard and resting and preparing for the next album. We have been busy making lots of plans. I will be going into the studio to record demos of the songs for the next album in early December! We can not wait!

We are hoping to make a Rhode Island show happen before the new year. We thought I'd be at True Brew again in October or November, but they have been struggling to stay open due to (largely false and exaggerated) neighbor complaints, so they have not been able to hold any live performances for a few months. The next town meeting is Monday November 26th at 7:30pm at the South Kingstown Town Hall with the Town Council who will vote on whether or not True Brew can obtain a theatre license. Kim and I will be there, and we hope you'll join us. If you loved seeing me at True Brew, please consider attending this important meeting and testifying as to how much this venue means to you. Your personal appearances and testimonies are the single most powerful tool that we have to keep True Brew open as a venue for my music. Please call Peg Fradette, True Brew's owner and huge fan of my music, at 401-741-5051 if you want to know more about how you can help.

Kim and I will be driving up to northern NH for a show at the cozy lesbian Highlands Inn on December 1st, as I am a part of their 2007 concert series. The Highlands Inn is on a 1/2 mi country road just off Rt 302, 2mi East of Rt93 in Bethlehem NH. This hotel is "the most romantic lesbian destination on the planet" according to planetout.com. Come join us for this great show! It's free for guests; for others, call for info at 877-LES-B-INN. www.highlandsinn-nh.com

We are happily planning a west coast tour in February, including a very special appearance at Outmusic's LA extravaganza, and hopefully, shows in Taos NM, Tucson AZ, and San Francisco CA. I will definitely keep you posted as Kim solidifies the schedule. We are excited to be driving across the country together for the first time.

Meanwhile, Kim and I are busily preparing our cleaning and cooking plans and shopping list for Thanksgiving. We are cooking together for the first time this year, and we are very excited. I am baking apple pie, sugar cookies, and pumpkin pie. She

is roasting the turkey, making the stuffing and cranberry sauce, and cooking lots of fall vegetables. We are making an entirely organic menu, to honor our bodies, our family, our farmers, our earth. We are so thankful to have each other, our family and friends, our work, and our troubled healing history and still-thriving planet. As a huge, huge THANK YOU to all of you, my favorite fans, I am having a holiday SALE. I hope you will buy my CDs for everyone on your gift-giving lists, to give them a bit of hope and healing. All of my CDs are $10 from Thanksgiving Day to New Years Day. :)

Happy Thanksgiving. Happy Harvest. Hope all your coming holidays are bright.

Be blessed, Kristi

Hallo Beautiful People!
I have good news! I am feeling well enough to play at Pagan Faire on Saturday. I didn't want to cancel everything, and I am very happy I didn't have to!
See you there!

Hallo Beautiful People,

I have some sad news and some fantastic news. The sad news is I am canceling a bunch of upcoming shows because I am on vocal rest, because I am sick from a few months of too little sleep. So, I am heartbroken to tell you I will not be in Buffalo or in Becket this week, and I am canceling RavenFest and The Mediator Stage in RI in October. :(

The fantastic news is that I am taking a retreat. I am going to rest and get my health back and rebuild my voice and exercise a lot and sleep as much as I can, so that I can be really really strong for the next album and the explosion that we expect to come with it. There will be major publicity and major touring, and I want to be very very ready. We intend to make some music videos, do some showcases for some major labels, create the team we need supporting my work to make the next album explode, and generally give you more and more of me, without tiring me out so much. :) In the short term, this looks like a lot less shows, while I write the rest of the new album with its top secret title. But we are planning to send me all over the globe in 2008, and I can't wait!

I have two other bits of excellent news too. Star Island was AMAZING. I climbed around on the rocks a lot. I swam in the cold cold ocean. I was so happy to show Kim this place that is so dear to my heart. We read about the 19th century murder on

Smuttynose, an island across from Star. I worked in the kitchen one day. I cut up way too many nearly frozen chicken legs. I rested as much as I could while still trying to be outside at all times. I saw a beautiful sunrise, several stunning sunsets, and a gorgeous moonrise. I saw old friends and made some amazing new ones. I read a lot to research some of the songs I am about to write, and I wrote some of the theory behind them. I played Brahms on the beautiful old Steinway in the old hotel's lobby. And I shared my two newest songs in the songwriters workshop and got some amazing feedback and lots of reaction from some of my lyrics. What a beautiful 9 days!

And, I came home to my NEW KEYBOARD! Finally! I know the folks who see me regularly at True Brew will be particularly happy to hear the news that my old Kurzweil PC88 will finally get to go into its long-overdue retirement. I am happy happy happy to announce and welcome in my new Nord Stage 88. It's 16 pounds lighter, has amazing vintage keyboard sounds and synth and effects capabilities, and it's bright red! We finally got the money together to buy it. So, part of what I am doing in this first part of my vocal rest and retreat, is learning how to use this new keyboard. It is very different from my old one. And I need to actually sit and read the manual and find out how to navigate all its amazing features and pick out which sounds will replace the sounds I used to use. Songs like Comeback and Rise will sound a little different next time you hear them live. But I think the change is so worth it. I can't wait to play Ravengirl the right way at the next show! You'll have to help me count just how many Eb's I was playing differently to avoid that clunker note on my old lady keyboard. Thanks to the amazing Kurzweil for getting me through 10 years and more than 600 shows!

I am so sorry for the cancellations. Not performing really breaks my heart. Yet I am so happy to have this opportunity to bring my work to even more people in the near future. Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers through this transition. I truly need and deeply appreciate all your love and support.

peace and peanut butter cookies, Kristi

Hallo Good People,

Kim and I just got back from VT where I competed with 9 other finalists in the Solarfest Songwriting Competition. I didn't win, even though I played well and we liked me best. But we were very happy that Chuck E. Costa won first place, because he was our favorite other finalist. I met Chuck at Tammany Hall in Worcestor in January, and we are planning to do some shows together in the next year because we like each other's songs so much. The Solarfest folks assure me they want me to do a main stage set next year because they like my songs so much they've made me a finalist two years in a row. So I will likely be collaborating with them in some way or

another on a few different earth-centered concert series they are working on.

We had so much fun in VT. It's SO beautiful there! And there is so much amazing locally grown food! We had lavender cake with wild strawberries! I am going to have to figure out how to make lavender cake. It was amazing.

Hallo Beautiful People!

Guess what? My song, "Blessed Community," has made me a finalist in the Solarfest Songwriting Competition! This means I'll be going up to VT in July to compete with the other 9 finalists. Wahooo! It's a beautiful beautiful festival. I hope you will come on out to show your support.

Happy pride everybody. Be proud of who and how you love. -Kristi

Hallo Beautiful People,

The Curve Magazine article finally arrived!!! Wowowowow! Okay, so it's not as long as it could be, considering they interviewed me for 3 hours in January. But it's still really really good and takes up almost a whole page!

Y'all should go over to your local feminist bookstore and buy it, and if you don't have a local feminist bookstore anymore, because Borders and Barnes & Noble came and closed them all down near you, go over to Borders or Barnes & Noble, find Curve, turn to page 86, and read the thing there. It will take you just a few minutes. And when they ask you to buy it, tell them you would if they hadn't taken away your favorite local independent store to buy it from.

You can also read a different version of the article online at curvemag.com. It really is a different version! I think the magazine version has fewer typos but is shorter than the online version, due to space constraints.

We're so excited! Tell us what you think!

Be Peace, Kristi

Hallo Beautiful People!
Guess what? In just one week, my song Blessed Community zoomed up to #63 (out of over 1,700 songs!) on Neil Young's Living With War Today, website, and then the next week if slipped to #82. Let's all make a point to go over there and listen to it again, so we can get it higher up on that chart! Everyone needs to hear that song! I wish we could hijack the Pentagon's intercom system and blast Blessed Community at them at least twice a day. :)
Be peace y'all,

Hallo Beautiful People,

The California tour was amazing! I got to play a fantastic grand piano in Santa Cruz. That audience saw all the humor in Into The Fog, which was a first and very fun. Many many old friends and fans attended the San Francisco show -- it's so special to play my songs for people who have watched me grow for so long and who really listen to every word. I got to play such a gorgeous grand piano at KPFA, and I'll definitely let you know when that will air. Lots of new songs got recorded. :) And LUVeR.com waited almost four years to get me in their studio to videotape me playing their handpainted piano. What a fun interview! I'll definitely tell you when that show will air on Berkeley TV. And all of my three-year-old friends (and their parents) got to attend the early evening show at Mills, and I am always so happy when they dance with me!

The Stone Soup show was FANTASTIC! I LOVE performing in venues that are all about people really listening to the music. I love when I get to connect with the audience that fully, when we get to be that present together. Thanks so much to everyone who came out and made that show so special. I'll jump off stage for your encore anytime you ask. :)

It's not too late to cast your Providence Phoenix votes! I have been nominated for the 2007 Providence Phoenix Best Music Poll in the Best Female Vocalist category. The ballot is available online at thePhoenix.com. And remember, you can nominate me in any category you believe appropriate:

Best Local Act (Kristi Martel)
Best Singer Songwriter (Kristi Martel)
Best Category-Defying Act (Kristi Martel Trio)
Best Album (Ravengirl)
Best Song (Photophobia
The website is a little counter-intuitive, but if you read the directions, I know you will get it. It DOES work, you just have to vote for only two categories per page, and then save the vote with a click of a button at the bottom of the page, before voting for the next two categories. Please please please go vote for me! You can vote for me even if you don't live in RI. Every every every

vote counts. Thank you SO SO SO much!
And guess what? My song, Blessed Community is up on Neil Young's website! Go check out his list

of protest songs. Be Peace Y'all,

Kristi

Hallo my fine friends!
Hold on! I have SO much to tell you!

DC!
DC was AMAZING! My manager Kim and I had so much fun! There were about 150 people at the Stevie Wonder Tribute. It was a fancy dinner party with Generals and Senators and Celebrities, where Jon Faddis, Joan Osborne, Brian McKnight, India Arie, Wyclef Jean, Ashford & Simpson, Dianne Reeves, Chaka Khan, Wynonna, Smokey Robinson, and Tony Bennett each performed one Stevie Wonder song. Tony was asked to stall and actually put the mic down and sang to us un-amplified and a cappella. Then Stevie received the ASCAP American Troubadour Award and performed a few songs. He had us singing with him. His voice and his spirit are so special. I feel so blessed to have been there. My favorites were Brian, India, Wyclef, Dianne, Chaka, Tony, and of course Stevie himself!

The next day we were told about Diane Feinstein's proposed Perform Act, which would make record labels the deciders about what songs get played on satellite and digital radio. This would mean songwriters have no say about where their songs get played, and therefore no way

to collect royalties for that play. Obviously, this is not in the interest of songwriters. We were divided into groups and met with different Senators. Marilyn Bergman, the President of ASCAP, was in my group, because Rhode Island's new Senator, Sheldon Whitehouse, was recently appointed to the Judiciary Committee, and ASCAP wanted to reach out to him right away. So we met with Ohio's Senator Brown, Rhode Island's Senator Whitehouse, and then California's Senator Feinstein, but she had representatives meet with just part of our group, instead of all of us. So I didn't get to take part in that one. Marilyn Bergman is a powerful advocate for songwriters, and I felt honored to work alongside her in the legislative meetings. It was truly an amazing experience.

CALIFORNIA!
Please tell Everyone you know in California to come to the two CA shows! We want to pack both houses, and with your help I know we can! It's been so long since I've played in California (almost two years!) and I can't wait to share all my new songs with you! Please send an email to fanmail@kmetal.net if you are going to either show

and have a special request. I will try to fulfill as many requests as possible for these special shows. I know you have been waiting a long time for my California return!

Hallo Good People!

Here I thought I was home for a few weeks of rest before the Cali tour, and then, while I was at the Lunar Eclipse show in the Berkshires, my music licensing organization, ASCAP, emailed me to invite me to see Chaka Khan, Joan Osborne, Brian McKnight, Smokey Robinson, Tony Bennett, Wynonna, and others perform a Tribute to Stevie Wonder Concert and to advocate on behalf of the music community at legislative meetings about Copyright and Intellectual Property Rights, in Congress, as the digital technology revolutionizes the music industry. I am SO excited! And I am happier still that they invited my manager, Kim, too. We are traveling to DC on March 13th for the concert and we'll be lobbying all day on the 14th. I will definitely tell you all about it.

And guess what? I wrote another new song! This one is for my mama warrior. It's called "Warrior Daughter," and you can read the lyrics at here. I am so excited about all the new songs. There are six now, patiently waiting for the next album.

When I get back from DC, KMT is going to get ready to rock Boston's Revolution Rock Bar & Lounge on March 22nd. And we sure hope you'll join us for our debut of the trio version of my new song, "Gutter Mouth." :)

Please request me on the radio! Here's a note from the Sealed Lip Records Aegis, my manager Kim & my booker Leslie: Request Kristi Martel on the radio! RI, NH, MA, CT, PA, & CA for starters... Be a part of the HUGE positive response all over the country to her latest album "Ravengirl!" Pass the below list of radio stations on to your friends! They all have "Ravengirl." We suggest requesting "Day of Rain," "Into the Fog," "Littlebird's Flight," & "The Third Death." But, really, all of the songs should be played. Let's get Kristi's music heard all over the country to new listeners who will love the music as much as you do!

Spread the love. :) Thanks,
Kim & Leslie

Hallo Good People,

There is SO much exciting news to tell you! But first, big BIG thanks to everyone who made it to the True Brew show. It was the trio's debut there and in southern RI, and we were SO happy to see SO many reserved seats when we were loading in our gear and happier still when twice that many people packed the place! You helped make

that night so special! We had SO much fun playing for you and watching you dance and sing and smile with us. In fact, the night was so perfect that we are already booked to play there again in May! :)

And thanks to everyone who came out to see me and Becky Chace at Peeptoad! What a special listening room. I got to meet and talk with so many of you! And I learned some new-to-me things about mules from The Mule Man. :)

Big news: I just got interviewed by Curve Magazine!!! Curve is the nation's best- selling lesbian magazine and is read by 250,000 women each month (that's a quarter of a million!), and they just spent 3 hours interviewing me and my percussionist Nisha Purushotham and my archivist Lisa Ridlon, because they wanted the perspective of people who've watched me grow over the past 7 years, since my little ep "Give Me a Little..." was released! We don't yet know when the article will be published, but we are so excited and will tell you when to look for it as soon as we know!

Guess what? I have another new song! I am amazed lately by how quickly and solidly I am writing. There are now 5 songs awaiting the next album. This one is called "Gutter Mouth," and it totally cracks me up. You can read the words here.

Um...I need your help again. If you think I am demonstrating excellence in music and advancing it as an art form and contributing significantly to music and community in Rhode Island, could you please go nominate me for the 2007 Rhode Island Pell Award for Excellence in the Arts? Here's the link. Thanks in advance!

And hey! My manager, Kim, needs your help! She wants to know WHO THE EFF IS KRISTI MARTEL??? She wants you to think about what I bring to the world musically and as a human, and why I should be the next big name in music. She wants to know what you think as she gets ready for us to explode onto the scene in bigger and better ways all the time. You can email me your thoughts. I will read them and pass them on to Kim. :)

Sealed Lip Records just acquired a publicist! We are SO happy about this wonderful addition to our little army. My radio presence is going to intensify in the next few months and I will keep you posted for information on how you can help.

Meanwhile...come on out and see me live! All details to the left.

January was SO full! I had a wild birthday marathon weekend: made tons of food, had tons of people over to celebrate, danced to lots of Prince, sang Blessed Community for the church community I wrote it for, saw one of my favorite performers, Diamanda Galas, in NYC with my favorite manager... And then I had a fantastic True Brew gig and a fun though surreal time at my sister's wedding. And I just need to thank you all again. Performing means more to me than probably anything else. Connecting with you from the stage is really why I'm here. I can't do what I do without you, and I am SO thankful for all your help getting me this far. Thanks so much for continuing to support me as my work grows and reaches more and more people. It really means

the world to me.

love and light y'all,
Kristi
